About Grapevine Group

The Grapevine Group Assoc Inc is a locally founded grassroots volunteer group who raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention and awareness in the Mackay region.

Grapevine Group relies entirely on community support and has operated since 2004.

We are a member & support the MRMHN Mackay Regional Mental Health Network.

The Philosophy

Due to needed restrictions in the media too many people will hear of a tragedy along the 'gossip grapevine' and not of the resources available to them. Grapevine Group intends to change that!

Grapevine promoted the resources that are available by drawing attention to the issue in a very positive light.

YIRS One Stop Youth Shop Inc.

Since December 2010 Grapevine Group has established joint suicide prevention projects with YIRS One Stop Youth Shop Inc.

This association has broadened Grapevine's reach by allowing the group to connect with a proactive community resource in Mackay's CBD.

Not only do YIRS auspice Grapevine Group they provide free support & advisory services to youths under 25 years & to their families.

Our Achievements

Local Suicide Prevention Training Sponsorship

We are a grassroots volunteer organisation that has operated for the past 6 years, who are dedicated to supporting local suicide prevention projects & have funded Mackay & district police officers, high school teachers, police officers & front line youth workers through 2 day Livingworks ASIST suicide intervention training presented by Lifeline Mackay-Whitsundays.

Grapevine trainers also present safeTALK suicide alertness training to Grapevine volunteers, the general community & find sponsorship to offer this training for free to local coaches, captains & sports volunteers.

In 2005 Grapevine compiled a comprehensive online list of local suicide prevention resources & maintain it with the assistance of Queensland Health.

Since 2009 we have printed & distributed Help-A-Mate Suicide Support cards at local events, to local businesses, clubs & organizations. A significant achievement of this efforts is that these cards are now being used by the districts emergency services such as GPs, ambulance, police & hospital emergency departments.
